Women in Napo (WiN) is lead by National Official, Annoesjka Valent with a National Officer who:

  • Organise online WiN meetings throughout the year
  • Co-ordinate the Napo delegation to the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Women’s Conference (Napo is allowed two delegates each year) - which takes place early March annually, a 3 day in-person Conference, in London
  • Organise in-person WiN fringe meetings at Napo AGM (when applicable)

AIMS

The aim of WiN is to increase the level of participation of Women in Napo so that it is reflective of women’s membership density in our union – which stands around/over three quarters of the membership.

We aim to get more women involved in Napo leadership roles, whether this is in the workplace, in local branches or the national union.

We also aim to raise the profile of women’s issues generally, again, whether this be in the workplace or wider society - and also particularly in relation to how societal issues impact female clients.

For more information about WiN, contact Annoesjka Valent, Napo National Official, at avalent@napo.org.uk

REPORTS

Report on Women Working With Women - Vicarous Trauma

Becky Shepherd, from London South Bank University and a former probation practitioner and Napo member has given more details about her research she has been undertaking and her message is:

Thanks to all members who participated in the Women Working With Women project on vicarious trauma in female probation practitioners who work with women. The report into the survey findings on this important topic is now published and available on the Napo website at above link and here again: WWWW Report

This report gives Napo evidence of the prevalence of vicarious trauma within this cohort of staff which can be used to advocate for better support and training from the employer. The vicarious trauma project is continuing and will next look at Family Court Section members.  More information will be coming out in due course. If anyone has any questions about the report feel free to email me Becky also on shepher7@lsbu.ac.uk

If you have any ideas on discussion areas for future meetings of Women in Napo, again please contact Annoesjka at avalent@napo.org.uk

And do talk to women colleagues not yet in a trade union and tell them about our WiN Network and encourage them to join us so they can also have a voice.
