Napo welcomes the move by Government to allow IPP prisoners to have their period of license reduced from 10 years to 5 years. Napo has been involved in a wider IPP campaign to seek urgent action for those still serving these sentences.
Napo also submitted evidence to the Justice Select Committee inquiry and support the recommendations that the committee published. This will also offer some respite from the ever growing workloads in probation and is a first step of positive action as a result of Operation Protect. Napo has been pushing the employer to take action on IPPs as part of our campaign to help reduce workloads. However, it is disappointing that no action is being taken to help those who are still serving. Napo will continue to campaign to see IPP’s resentenced and for all recommendations to be implemented.
